Brave Step
At 2:45 p.m. PST, December 18, 2003, future NYTimes Best-Seller List author "Scott Richards" sent off his first completed book proposal to an agent. It was the culmination of six months of writing from the soul.
Despite the possible outcomes from this event, he felt a sense of satisfaction that defied description. It was a feeling of completion, of persistence, of follow-through and dedication combined with pride and a slight fear of rejection mixed with a slight hope for success. Perhaps the best description for the feeling was "simply and evenly balanced."
He went for a walk with his dogs, knowing that things were now out of his hands. It was time to just sit back and trust that life would continue to bring him his dreams, one by one as it had been doing the last two months. He'd been through a bit, but in doing so, he learned a lot. Perhaps the biggest lesson was that literally everything would come his way once he just started accepting good things instead of pushing them away.
It took him 38 years but now, he finally saw the good within himself and he began to love who he was. He could finally see what others had seen in him...and in that moment, he understood his incredible wealth to the world in simply being someone who dared to act on his dreams.
As he walked along, he began to truly smile, for the first time. He knew that from this point forward, he would never need to look back. He thought, "Life is about living right, not regretting wrong."
Oh, and if you quote him on that, be sure and give him credit. He deserves it, afterall.
